Since I deal with hyperpigmentation (sunspots) and uneven skin tone, I was looking forward to using the Clarisonic Sonic Radiance Cleansing Device Customization Set. The system is supposed to treat and reduce dark spots and overall pigmentation. It includes an AM and PM cleanser, serum, and a Radiance brush head to be used with a Clarisonic device.
According to Sephora’s website:
The AM Skin Illuminating Cleanser brightens and removes impurities.
The PM Skin Renewing Peel Wash supports natural skin turnover.
The Brightening Activator Serum fades and combats dark spots, age spots, and acne-induced discoloration while providing intense hydration.
My experience using the system:
The PM cleanser is more like gel and doesn’t foam up, which made getting makeup off a little difficult. I wished it was more like the AM foaming cream cleanser because that one feels like it really cleans the dirt off from the end of the day. But since introducing an oil cleanser that dissolves makeup and dirt as the first step before using the PM cleanser, it has not been an issue.
There is a warning about the PM wash. It contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and the possibility of sunburn. When I first started the Sonic Radiance program, my face did get slightly pink and then it seemed to get used to the product. Definitely wear sunscreen (always!) and limit exposure to the sun when you are starting this set.
After using it, my face looked brighter and more even. In the initial phase, as my skin was getting more “radiant”, my sunspots seemed more apparent. Perhaps it was from the contrast between the lighter skin and my dark spots. It seemed as if the products were working quicker and more effectively on my “normal” skin than on the darker pigmentation. Eventually, the look of my hyperpigmentation slightly softened, too. The Sonic Radiant products didn’t get rid of my dark spots entirely, but they definitely improved the look of my skin and reduced the hyperpigmentation. (I ended up lasering the most apparent sunspot, and I will share about that experience in a future post!) People totally noticed a difference in my face. One of my friends asked, “Are you getting paler??” We took a photo at dinner, and my face was way more white than usual. So I would say that this does make your skin look more radiant, but it also seemed to lighten my skin. Which may or may not be your thing. Anyway, please see the (really flattering) before and after photos below. Picture one proves that it IS all about the angles- I look like a potato head in a mugshot.
Despite the whiter skin, I still use Sonic Radiance products. The benefits of evening out my skin tone and fading my dark spots even convinced me to get another mini Sonic Radiance device customization set when it was a Sephora free rewards option. We will see what happens with extended use!
The makeup bag is from the Banana Republic Outlet Store for $8.99. Adorable!
Goodbye and xo,
