One of my favorite ramen places in New York City is Ippudo NY in the East Village. And the over 4,700 reviews on Yelp reflect its popularity. I will admit that I’ve met my share of haters who like to declare the mediocrity of the place. But I feel like patrons tend to get mad at establishments that require a huge wait. Yes, this place can be a pain in the ass. But you can avoid the lunch and dinner rush and be fine. I even went the other day with a friend at 7:30pm and only waited for 20 minutes.
My favorite is the above ramen. Read this description from Ippudo’s menu: The original silky “Tonkotsu” (pork) soup noodles topped with Ippudo’s secret “Umami Dama” miso paste, pork chashu, cabage, sesame kikurage mushrooms, scallions, and fragrant garlic oil.
Did you read that? FRAGRANT garlic oil! I also like to get a side of spicy paste to add to the ramen.
And Ippudo is opening another location on the West Side on July 13th.
Get ready to enjoy the Tonkotsu broth ramen and all the other favorites from the East Village location. There will be additional exciting dishes like wontons stuffed with crab meat, sea urchin toast, gluten-free Shojin ramen, and vegan/vegetarian ramen options!
